Welcome to Bushman Rock
In an age where one is bombarded with images of beauty; computer generated and colour enhanced, it is amazing that nature, un-airbrushed and pure, still has the ability to take ones’ breath away. We know of a place that is so serene and tranquil that even nature and development seem to have forgotten their eternal battle. A place where duality makes sense; where untamed African wilderness meets manicured European vineyards, where water meanders through rivers of reeds and where zebra and wildebeest graze the tended polo fields. A cry of the fish eagle and the barking of the baboons drown out the gentle chugging of the water pump as it irrigates the paddocks and the grape guard spends his day patrolling not for thieves but for impish vervet monkeys. We know of a place that combines the new with the old; where days are spent on horseback, driving cattle through grasslands and nights are spent sipping chilled wine round the fire. This piece of paradise remains hidden down our secret valley in a small country in Africa. Bushman Rock Estate, for all its serenity and slow pace of life has been forged through hardship, sweat and tears. Throughout the turbulent times in Zimbabwe’s recent past the development continued; the vineyards expanded and the winery upgraded, polo fields planned and the African game that once roamed freely reintroduced. Bushman Rock started out as a small family vineyard and winery and has grown to become, through the vision and passion of Rick and Sally Passaportis, one of the ‘special’ places on this amazing continent.
The family’s community spirit and belief in our country resulted in the Bushman Rock brand extending well beyond the original wine and table grapes. The Bushman Rock Conservation Project in conjunction with the Tikki Hywood Trust is at the forefront of the breeding and reintroduction of endangered mammals into the wild. The work that is carried out in taking the Kusanganisa Education Program into the underprivileged schools in the area and our assistance with the program’s market garden and animal husbandry sections is greatly appreciated by the community. Bushman Rock Water is the leading customised water producer in the country and plans are underway to release a product under our own label. The Passaportis’ have always enjoyed socialising and entertaining and at Bushman Rock Polo Safaris our focus is on the individual guest and provision of quality and consistent service. The Winery restaurant offers an unrivalled experience, our venue enables you to take in all that is Bushman Rock while enjoying great wine and wonderful food.
The Passaportis’ and all their team would like to invite you to explore this site, gaining a greater understanding of our unique product. It must be said however that nothing can compare to seeing the Estate in person and please do not hesitate to contact us with any queries.
